Preparing for class the week of November 16th
Hi Class,
This week is all about electronic journalism, which promises to be both informative and useful for professional careers in this electronic age. Our readings are "ProPublica Reporting Network adds 1,000 Members," which Mike & Eunice will provide speeches on, and "YouTube Launches Center to Foster Citizen Journalism," which Khylie & Katie will present. Amalee will give her speech from last week's reading to start out the class, and I think it will make a good transition for us to start thinking about electronic journalism. ***Note that the YouTube reading is accessed through a link in the online class schedule. Also, note that this week's readings are rather short so use your extra time to really create a nice draft, which is due in section next week. Remember that this draft is still worth a whopping 20 points, so don't let the word "draft" tempt you to turn in a weak product. We've just got speeches (24 points), this draft (20 points), the final draft (24 points), and the final exam (80 points) left. There are fewer assignments, but they are worth a lot so make them count.
You're all doing very well, so keep up the good work. To use an old cliche, "when the going gets tough, the tough gets going." As the semester ramps up to the grand finale, don't succumb to the pressure. You're all doing really well, and I know you can finish with stellar marks.
And lastly, come see me in office hours after lecture on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:45-11:45 a.m. to check on your status and talk about your research papers!
